
The AFD (Agence Française de Développement / Proparco) based in Johannesburg has a regional mandate, which covers in addition of South Africa: Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Lesotho. Proparco benefits from a broader mandate that includes Angola, Mozambique and Swaziland.
The AFD group values in its vision, the challenges of sustainable development and regional integration coordinating with key institutional lessors, including South Africa.
Our strategy is axed on 3 main priorities identified in the Country Partnership Strategy.
Support the regional infrastructure projects and large public works in a perspective of regional integration
Seek for synergies with regional development players with a mandate in the area of the SADC, by identifying and funding projects
Accompany African major groups in their strategy of business development
Bring support to South African financial institutions in the implementation of regional projects regarding banking intermediation (funding for affordable housing, for SMEs, for energy efficiency projects ...)
Take account of the major issues of global warming in financing the country's energy policy:
- by promoting a better energy mix in a perspective of sustainable development
- by considering all factors regarding energy efficiency in the context of urban development
Participate in the management of natural protected areas to conserve biodiversity
